Nila is an experienced
actress, director, acting trainer and Feldenkrais
practitioner. Born in Africa of Indian/African decent,
she moved to England at the age of six. Her university
education took her to Germany ( BA American & English
Lit/ Theater Studies) and the USA where she received her
MFA ( CWRU) in acting. Further independent studies
directed her toward a Feldenkrais Practitioner training.
Nila was brought up on a diet of bollywood films “they
were my first exposure to the art and craft of acting and
story telling and the reason I decided to become an
actress at the tender age of 7!... to this day an essence
of India still weaves its way into the visual aesthetics
and emotional structures of my work. My life has made me
a global citizen but my work always reveals to me that my
heart is Indian…”
Throughout her professional life Nila has been fascinated
with the research in the fields of creativity and
learning, brain-consciousness studies, body-mind
awareness training and performance related shamanic and
spiritual practices. This background of multicultural and
interdisciplinary influences inspired the development of
Synapsing, an innovative learning/rehearsal and
performance process that connects performers to their
core creativity. Synapsing integrates the body-mind
intelligence, facilitates experiential and organic
learning and encourages creative evolution, personal
growth and artistic vision. Over the past 20 years her
workshops, courses and performance projects have reached
beyond disciplinary boundaries and participants have
included not only actors and dancers but also singers,
musicians, writers, directors, and therapists, in short -
all those interested in developing and expanding their
creative resources.
Nila currently lives in London where she works as an
actress and continues to give Synapsing workshops and
courses in Europe. Her stage appearances include Andrew
Lloyd Webber's West End production of Bombay Dreams,
Silver Star West End production Instant Celebrity; most
recent TV appearances include BBC’s Spooks, ITV’s A Touch
of Frost and the BBC/HBO Five Days.
